Irrigation FAQs
What sort of maintenance does an irrigation system require?
Most irrigation systems need two scheduled services a year: a spring start-up and a fall winterization. At the spring start-up, Hydroscapes turns the system on, checks every zone for leaks and broken sprinkler heads, and programs the controller for the season. Before the first hard freeze, we winterize by clearing water from the lines so pipes and fittings don’t crack. Southeastern PA homeowners can also call us between visits for repairs, dry spots and controller problems.
Can Hydroscapes service a system you did not install?
Yes, Hydroscapes services and repairs irrigation systems no matter who installed them. Many of our Southeastern PA customers inherited an inefficient sprinkler system when they bought their home, or weren’t happy with a previous provider. We start with a free system inspection, then repair, upgrade or reconfigure the system so it runs efficiently.
How does regular use of the system affect my expenses?
A professionally installed irrigation system usually costs less to run than watering by hand. Programmable controllers and rain sensors deliver the right amount of water to each zone and skip watering when it rains, which cuts water waste compared with hoses and portable sprinklers. Regular maintenance keeps leaks, broken heads and misaligned spray patterns from quietly raising your water bill.
How will a new installation affect my lawn?
A new irrigation installation causes very little lawn damage, and most yards look normal again within about a week. Hydroscapes installs underground pipe with a vibratory plow, which slices a narrow cut through the soil instead of digging open trenches. Sensitive areas are dug by hand, and every disturbed area is seeded and covered with straw so it grows back quickly.
How long does a new installation take?
Most residential irrigation system installations in Southeastern PA take 1 to 3 days. The timeline depends on the size of your property and how complex the design is. We give you an estimated schedule before work begins and keep you updated if weather or soil conditions affect it.
Does someone need to be present for the consultation?
We recommend that everyone involved in the decision attend the free irrigation consultation. Walking the property together lets us discuss your goals, where zones and sprinkler heads will go, and where you’d like the controller. It also means your questions get answered on the spot. Remote estimates are possible, but an in-person visit gives the most accurate design and quote.
Does someone need to be present for the installation?
Someone only needs to be home for about 2 hours, while we install the backflow preventer where the system connects to your water supply. We’ll also need access if you want the controller mounted indoors, such as in a garage. The rest of the sprinkler system installation happens outside, so you don’t need to be home until we walk you through the finished system.
How expensive is an irrigation system?
The cost of an irrigation system depends on your property’s size, layout, water pressure and the number of zones, because every Hydroscapes system is custom-designed. We offer options for different budgets and design each system for efficiency, so it saves water and money over the long term. The consultation is free, so the fastest way to get an accurate price is to book one.
